Richard P. De Groot, was born July 27, 1933 in Chicago, IL and passed away on December 8, 2012 at home in Stanwood, WA after battling lung cancer.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and Disabled Veterans.
Richard was the owner of a resort in Minnesota and managed resorts in Canada, Minnesota and Eastern Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Stella; and brother, James.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marriann; children, Rick (Vicki) De Groot, Mary Ellen (Tommy) Turner, Karen (Tom) Klett and Linda (Brent) Barker; grandchildren, Derek, Saul, Benjamin, Kristy and Sarah; and his brothers, Robert and Thomas.
A visitation will be held December 14, 2012, 10 a.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave. Marysville, WA. 98270. A Graveside service will follow the same day 1:30 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street Kent, WA, 98042.
