Tim was born September 2, 1955 in San Rafael, California to Maxine and Eugene Anthony Laughlin. When Tim was five years old, his mother married Milton Bean, who adopted him and his siblings Tammy and Terry.
The family lived in Glendale, Arizona where youngest brother Todd was born. They later moved to California and then to Edmonds, Washington, where Tim played football and graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1973. Tim attended Everett Community College on a football scholarship, eventually deciding to enlist in the United States Marine Corps in 1974. He became involved in the base football program and played on all-star and championship teams.
After his honorable discharge from the Marines in 1977, Tim attended Olympic College in Bremerton on a football scholarship. While there he met his future wife Debbie. Together they moved to Butte, Montana, where Tim received a football scholarship to play for the Montana Tech Orediggers.
Tim and Debbie got married in 1980 and together they graduated from Montana Tech in 1982.
After graduating, Tim and Debbie moved back to the Seattle area where they worked, son Daniel was born in 1983, and Tim became involved in semi pro football. He ended up playing for the Auburn Panthers for four years.
Around this time Tim started working at Boeing and took an interest in drag racing, eventually buying the shell of a 1970 Nova and building it into the “Excitable Boy” that he entered in Bracket Races at “SIR”, now Pacific Raceway. Daughter Allison was born in 1991, near the beginning of the serious racing phase. The family attended races and made many good friends being involved with the teams at the racetrack over the next 20 years. During this time, Dan started racing and they enjoyed spending time and helping each other at the tracks in Seattle, Yakima, and others in the Northwest.
Tim and his family lived in Yakima from 2003 to 2011, and moved to Marysville where Tim bought his first boat. He soon became interested in fishing, crabbing, and shrimping, leaving drag racing behind. He then bought a bigger fishing boat and spent a lot of time mainly in the Puget Sound. He loved taking his son and grandkids and they were usually successful at catching their limits.
Tim retired from Boeing in 2020, allowing for more time out on the water fishing.
A few years ago, his passion shifted to golf. He had played a little golf when he was younger, but now he was more serious. He joined the Senior Men’s League at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville where he made many new friends and worked on getting better at golf. He also worked on getting his son and grandsons into golf and enjoyed spending time on the course with them.
Tim went on some golf trips with the men from the league and enjoyed the camaraderie they had. He especially loved his trips to Tucson to visit his mom and to play the many courses down there. Last fall he travelled to Palm Springs and played golf with his brother Todd, which was a special treat.
Sadly, not too long ago, Tim was diagnosed with an aggressive stomach cancer, and after a short but brave battle, he succumbed to the illness.
Tim leaves behind his wife Debbie, son Dan (Alicia), daughter Allison Johnson (Stephanie), grandchildren Dasia Laughlin, Peyton Laughlin, Parker Laughlin, and Blair Johnson, his mother Maxine Bean, sister Tammy Susdorf, brothers Terry (Glenda), Todd (Linda), sister in law Joanne Manion (Tom), brothers-in-law Larry (Janet), Steve (Penny) and many nieces and nephews.
Tim was preceded in death by his father Eugene Laughlin, adoptive father Milton Bean, mother and father-in-law Evelyn and V.G. Oliver, his Aunt Jane Wyatt, his Uncle Joe Blair, his adoptive grandmother “Grambo” Emma Lee Head, and his grandfather Oscar Blair, who he spent many special times with as a young boy.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at The Mill on Lake Stevens, 1812 Main St. Lake Stevens, WA 98258.
