Wilson was born in Allen, Nebraska on Sept 6, 1915 and was raised in a small farmhouse in Ponca, Nebraska. He went to college at the University of Nebraska where he ran track (sharing a record for the fastest mile run in the Big Ten schools for several years) and, in 1938, received his degree in Agriculture. In May 1940, Wilson married Elsie Dix. They had 5 children together: Dale, the oldest, and two sets of twins, Cecil and Susan, and Don and Donna. The family farmed until WWII, at which time Wilson joined the Army, serving his country in both Africa and Italy. After the war Wilson returned to farming, only to soon rejoin the Army to fight in Korea at the front lines. He remained in the service until retiring in 1967 in Pacific Grove, CA. There he worked for the US Postal Service for 10 years until 1977, when he retired for the final time.
In 1992 Wilson moved to Everett, WA, eventually moving in with his son and daughter-in-law in Marysville for the last 15 years of his life. He is survived by his sons Dale, Cecil and Don; his daughters Susan and Donna; 11 grand-children and 10 great-grand-children; and his wife Elsie, 98, to whom he had been happily and lovingly married for 72 years.
A Celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 27, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.
