Gloria was born in New York City in April 1930 to Clara and Damiano Cosentino. She grew up in Brooklyn with her sister Josephine during the Great Depression. A faithful Roman Catholic, Gloria was strong in her faith and loved Mother Mary, Jesus and Padre Pio. As a young woman, she helped support her family by working as a manicurist and working for Colgate until she married the love of her life, Donald McNeilly on November 29, 1952, just six months after he proposed. They moved to Seaford, NY shortly after starting their family. They created an amazing legacy including seven children: MaryAnn, Donald Jr. (Karen), Marie (Gary), John (Deidre), Matthew, Patrick (Laura), and Kenneth (Roxanna), 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren whom she adored.
Over the years she worked many jobs including at Mid Island department store, McMichaels, and Arthur Treacher’s. Her favorite job outside the home was volunteering in Seaford Harbor School. After Donald retired, they moved to Spring Hill, Florida to enjoy retirement with their son Kenny, and grandchildren Kenneth and Katherine along with their extended family. Their days were filled with dances, movies, ceramics, art, Mahjongg, and dominoes, and they shared 50 loving years of marriage. After Donald passed away, Gloria moved to Kennebunk, Maine to live with Patrick, Laura, Ryan and Erin.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband Donald, son Matthew, parents Clara and Damiano, stepmother Rose Odorisio, and sister Josephine (James).
Services will be held Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 at James Funeral Home, Massapequa, NY with interment to follow Friday 12:30 pm at the Long Island National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Hospice Christopher House, Austin TX. They took amazing care of Gloria. https://www.hospiceaustin.org/get-involved/donate/
