James “Jimmy” Halligan, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, will be missed dearly. He was the devoted son of the late James Joseph Halligan and Mary Grace Halligan, and a loving brother to Cathy and Michael.
Jimmy was a proud uncle to Joseph, Caitlyn, and Bridget, and a cherished great-uncle to Jaxon, Bruce, Harvey, and Layla. Family meant everything to him, and he took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of those he loved.
Growing up, Jimmy enjoyed playing soccer throughout his high school years. He later attended Saint John’s University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Jimmy went on to build a successful career as a Systems Analyst with IBM, working in many cities throughout his professional life.
A man of deep faith, Jimmy was devoted to his family and to God. He prayed the rosary daily and attended Mass faithfully. After the passing of his father, he lovingly cared for his mother and continued their cherished tradition of attending daily Mass together even after her passing. Jimmy was an active and generous member of his parish, Our Lady of Lourdes. In his earlier years, he volunteered regularly, calling numbers at the parish’s weekly bingo nights and helping count donations collected during weekend Masses.
Jimmy’s generosity extended far beyond the church walls. He quietly supported many parish drives, including Back-to-School programs, Thanksgiving food baskets, and Christmas gift collections. He especially loved donating bicycles and helmets for children during the holidays, hoping to bring joy to families in need.
To neighbors and friends, Jimmy was known as the person who would help anyone without hesitation. During winter snowstorms, he would rise early to plow the entire block before most neighbors were even awake. Anyone who knew him would agree he was one of the kindest people you could meet—always willing to lend a hand and never expecting anything in return.
Jimmy faced more than 15 years of illness with quiet strength and resilience. He never complained and refused to let it slow him down. In warmer months, he loved riding his bike and often cycled up to 30 miles a day. Even after a serious fall that left him hospitalized with a punctured lung and several broken ribs, he was eager to get back on his bike as soon as he could.
Though Jimmy was naturally quiet and never sought attention, those who knew him well understood that he could be quite talkative when discussing topics he loved—especially stocks or sports. He enjoyed studying market trends and predictions and rarely missed watching Jim Cramer on television. He also loved football and could often be heard enthusiastically shouting along with the broadcasters, especially when there was a big play or a fumble.
Jimmy never liked being the center of attention and never wanted to burden anyone—even on his birthday. When asked how he wanted to celebrate, his answer was always simple: pizza and a slice of cheesecake.
Above all else, Jimmy loved his family. When his nephew and nieces were young, he delighted in taking them to fun zones for afternoons of racing games and Skee-Ball. He patiently played endless rounds of Candy Land with Caitlyn and could always be found cheering proudly in the stands during Joey’s hockey games whenever he was in town. As they grew older, he took great pride in watching them build their careers and families.
Jimmy may have been a quiet man, but his presence was deeply meaningful to those around him. His generosity, faith, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest easy, my brother.
