Virginia Kegley Carpenter

Virginia Kegley Carpenter, 94, a resident of Aberdeen, Ohio, formerly of Maysville, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at her home with her family at her side. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Lewis County on April 24, 1917, the daughter of the late George Henry and Anna Elliott Kegley. She was the devoted wife of the late Deward M. Carpenter. She is survived by her three children; Charlotte (Richard) Allen of Aberdeen, Shirley (Doug) White of Manchester and Randy (Diana) Mason of Aberdeen. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Kelly (Russ) Ward of Morehead, Jenny (Joel) Higgins of Warsaw, Indiana, Stephen (Jennifer) White of Manchester, Daniel Mason and Ryan Mason of Cincinnati, Eric Mason of Aberdeen and seven great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Betty Jewel Crump of Aberdeen and a brother, Clarence Kegley of Russellville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Vada Rigdon and Dorothy Jester; and four brothers, Willard, Clyde, Ora and Elwood Kegley. Mrs. Carpenter was one of the oldest surviving active members of the Central Baptist Church which she joined in 1936. There she served many years caring for the young children in the church nursery. Mrs. Carpenter’s roots were always important to her. She kept those roots deeply grounded by maintaining the “home place” in Lewis County where the Kegleys and their descendents from far and wide gather on Labor Day weekend to renew family ties. Funeral services for Virginia Carpenter will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Central Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Donovan officiating, assisted by Rev. Mark Powell.
