Annie L. Jackson, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. She was born in Statesboro, Georgia, in 1933 to the late Alva Barto Lord and the late Leila Marsh Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. (JC) Jackson, and her beloved daughter, Saundra Cherise (Cheri) Jackson; her brother, Leo Lord; and her sisters, Carolyn Blackburn, Wilma Akins, and Hilda Hendrick. She is survived by nieces and nephews Dennis Akins, Amy Allen, Donna Blackburn, Gene Blackburn, Debbie Cail, Linda Hagan, John Hendrick, Patricia Howard, Brenda Mahaffey, and Beverly Skinner; granddaughter Elizabeth Fenimore; and their respective spouses and children. Mrs. Jackson moved to Atlanta from Statesboro following graduation in 1950 from Georgia Teachers College High School (a former unit of today’s Georgia Southern University). After serving her country in the Women’s Army Corps, she married JC, and raised their daughter, Cheri, who became her lifelong companion. Moving to McDonough, Mrs. Jackson owned and operated a beauty salon for many years — being a small business owner was a matter of pride for her. She was an avid player of board games and was fond of dogs, especially her golden retriever, Aine, who was her daily strength and comfort in her final years. Crafting was her passion. She excelled at quilting, needlepoint and crochet, making everything from afghans to Christmas ornaments and decorative linens. A religious person, she frequently taught Sunday school and considered How Great Thou Art to be her very favorite hymn. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Haisten Funerals and Cremations in McDonough, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
