Charles Ernest Fontana, age 89, passed away May 9, 2023 in Hampton, GA He was born 1/16/1934 in Aliquippa, PA to Clara and Paul Fontana. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Stokes Fontana, and two sisters, Emma Jane Mraovich and Virginia (Bunky) Kwolek. Mr. Fontana is survived by his brother Bob Fontana; three children Dale (Janet) Fontana, Susan Fontana (Chris) Cannaday, David Fontana; five grandchildren Allison Fontana, Kevin Fontana, Roy Cannaday, Justin Cannaday, Kelsey Fontana, Leanne Fontana; five great-grandchildren Madison, Scott Daniel, Violet, Karsen, and Skye. Chuck married the love of his life, Sandra, in 1958, and the two were nearly inseparable, going on many adventures and serving their community and church family together, until her death in 2010. He was an Army veteran, a woodworker, and expert "Mr. Fix It". He also worked for IBM and Kodak as an engineer. Chuck spent his life helping others. He volunteered at the local food pantry for years and through that ministry found even more ways to help more people. As a member of Berea Christian Church, he served alongside many dear friends. He showed up early to make the coffee and would stay late to help clean up. He built and fixed anything that was needed there, served as an elder and as a Sunday school teacher. He was selfless - not just at the church but also in the lives of so many. He loved his friends and family fiercely and thought nothing of driving 10+ hours to help with something at your house or any problem you may be having. He traveled with the Church Builders ministry to build churches or additions in many states so that there were churches for more people to come to know Our Lord! He helped his son and son-in-law build their houses. He was always building something for someone in his beloved workshop and loved to teach his grandkids his craft. So many family members and friends have personalized wall clocks, wooden pens, dollhouses, or specialized cabinets in their homes that were all examples of his craftsmanship and huge giving heart. Dad was a friend and helper to so many in his family, his church family, and in the community. All dad did was not for himself, but for his Savior. Our dad and grandfather will be greatly missed. Dad is spending his days with his Savior now. He slipped from this earth peacefully Tuesday evening with his family by his side. While we are happy for him to be pain-free beside his love again, we are deeply saddened that we will no longer have him here with us. The family will greet friends from 12pm- 2:00pm on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Berea Christian Church in Hampton with services beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
