

Mr. Charlie Hubert Shurley, Sr., age 78 of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away July 11, 2014. He was born in Warrenton, Georgia to the late Cecil Shana and Emma Lou Giles Shurley. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nell Giles and by siblings, Billy Shurley and Doris Massey. Charlie was a member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church and Heron Bay Golf Course. He retired after 41 years with Beers Construction Company and among his projects were the Emory PE Building, Piedmont Hospital – Atlanta, Swiss Hotel – Atlanta, Mayo Clinic – Jacksonville, Auto Zone Headquarters – Memphis, Coca Cola Headquarters 10 story, Hyatt Regency, Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, Crown Pointe office building, Union Bank – Savannah and C&S Bank Headquarters. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening and riding his tractor. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Daphne Shurley; children, Pam (Jim) Toney of Locust Grove, Tina (Jeff) Brown of Stockbridge, Chip (Suzanne) Shurley of Thomaston, Mike Shurley of McDonough, Lauren (John) Spillers of Old Town, FL, Paige (Al) Acosta of Perry, Don (Cristy) NeSmith of Locust Grove; and he was PawPaw or Papa C to his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Pastor Craig Bowers will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro. Friends may visit the family Saturday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society or to Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center in memory of Charlie.
