He was born January 21, 1939 in McDonough, Georgia, a son of the late William Laurie and Pebble Berry Strawn. He was preceded in death by his brother Norman Strawn. He is survived by his sister Lynda Gayle Strawn; two sons, Dan Strawn Jr. (Charlotte) and Chris Strawn; former wife Bess Owen Strawn; grandsons Colton Strawn (Sarah) and Clint Strawn; great-grandchildren Owen Robert Strawn and Georgia Kathryn Strawn; and Daniel’s partner Janis Waits.
He graduated from Henry County High School, Class of 1957, and then attended Southern Business University in Atlanta.
He served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, KY. He was then employed by Seaboard Coastline, Atlanta Division, then transferred to Amtrak until retirement in 1987.
