George Dewey Hurst Jr.

Mr. George Dewey Hurst Jr., age 94, of Tucker, GA passed away April 15, 2025. George was born in Cairo, GA, the son of the late Myrtle Singletary Hurst, and George D. Hurst Sr., He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Barbara Brown Hurst, and his sister, Mrs Mary Hurst Romay.

George was a member of Brookhaven Christian Church since 1962 where he served in numerous leadership positions. George attended Cairo High School, and was a member of their 1946 State Championship Team. He then attended the University of Georgia, earning his bachelors degree. He spent 35+ years in the insurance risk business before enjoying his retirement. George enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs, the Braves games, and especially cherished his beloved cat, B.W.

Survivors are his two loving sons and daughter-in-law- Jeff and Donna Hurst of Dacula, and Trae Hurst of Dacula/Tucker, granddaughter Samantha Hurst of Nashville, Tennessee , sister in-laws Polly Brown, Jean Brown,  and Joan Ernst, and numerous niece's and nephews that he considered/loved like his children.

The family will have a small graveside memorial service Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00pm in Locust Grove Cemetery, with Rev Beth and Jennifer of Brookhaven Christian Church officiating. For those who wish- in lieu of flowers,  considerations may please be made to Brookhaven Christian Church,  #4500 Peachtree Road NE., Atlanta, Ga. 30319 - in George's memory.
