Mr. James Isham Gunn left this earth and tasted eternity on April 2, 2015 at the age of 82. As a young boy, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ that produced years of active church membership, a passion for Bible Study, and a love for missions. For much of his life he contributed to several organizations that promoted the Christian faith and its values. He taught Sunday school classes at several churches and served as a deacon. James was born in Montezuma, Georgia, the son of the late James Isham Gunn Sr., and Grace Ward Gunn. His father was a farmer in South Georgia and the Gunn family knew hard times and humble means. James graduated Valedictorian of Byromville High School in 1949 and joined the army soon thereafter. He served in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Germany and was in the reserves until his Honorable Discharge in 1961. He worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Company for thirty-six years until his retirement in 1994. During that time he married his wife Linda and raised two children both of whom pursued higher education, perhaps as a direct influence of James’s love of learning. He was a loyal and devoted husband demonstrating faithfulness, stability and love for his family during the fifty years he was married. He is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Linda; his daughter Rebecca and husband Greg Chapman; his son David and wife Lou Anne and four grandsons, John Michael, Quintin, Daniel and Justin. A visitation for James will be on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 6 – 8:00 PM at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 – 2:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Greer and Rev. Dr. Timothy Dowdy officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Forest Park at 3:30 PM. Haisten Funeral Home – McDonough 770-914-8833 haistenfunerals.com
