

Earl Pendley, lifelong resident of Henry County and Hampton, Georgia, 93 years old, entered into rest on May 29, 2015. Earl was the youngest son of Jasper Elijah Pendley of McDonough, GA and Sarah Frances (Sallie) King, of Hampton, GA. Earl was born and worked on a farm and graduated from the first Hampton High School in 1938 and from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, in 1942 with a degree in Business. Not long after he finished college Uncle Sam called Earl to serve in the US Army in World War II and Korea, where he was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. He saw action in the Guadalcanal and Bougainville Campaigns in the South Pacific, and Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines. Earl met and courted Alice Clyde Jackson while at Berry College, and they were married in 1946. Earl and Alice celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in February 2015. Earl started his working career as a sales clerk at JC Penney’s in Griffin and worked as a door-to-door salesman for the LB Price Mercantile Company in Atlanta, prior to going in business for himself in Hampton, Georgia, where he ran several businesses on Main Street for many years. He was a dedicated gardener and sold his tomatoes to local restaurants. He enjoyed fishing, eating peanut butter, and never missed a Braves baseball game. He was a lifelong member of the Berea Christian Church in Hampton. Earl is survived by his wife, Alice, a son, Charles, of McDonough, Georgia, a daughter, Sarah Earlene, from Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Ferry of Boston, Colin Wolf Weiner of New York City, and Molly Elise Weiner of Baltimore; great-granddaughter, Miller Catherine Ferry of Boston, MA; sister-in-law, Vivian Pendley ; and niece, Elaine Warlick. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne K. Pendley.
