Jean Moore Murphy, age 79, of McDonough, GA passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Murphy, her parents, Paul and Miriam Moore, and foster sister Diane Thompson.
Jeanie graduated from Maury High School in 1964, Averett College in 1966, and the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1968. She went on to receive her Master of Religious Education degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1972.
Mike and Jeanie were married in June of 1970 and would spend the next 54 years together. They moved to Sunflower, MS in 1973 where Jeanie served as pastor’s wife and mom to their two girls. The family moved to Costa Rica in 1976 for Spanish Language School and then to Guatemala where Jeanie served as a missionary for 8 years. She worked with women in the local church and used her nursing experience to teach nutrition and health classes to women both in Guatemala City and other towns and villages.
Jeanie was an RN at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA from 1988 to 1994. She took her nursing and Spanish-speaking skills to serve the Hispanic community in Chamblee-Doraville as the Director of Health Ministry with Atlanta Intercultural Ministries.
Even after retiring, Jeanie was not finished serving those in need and found a new passion. She went to work at the Bridge Wellness Center South as nurse manager, caring for pregnant women. She trained in a new skill as a sonographer. Upon her second retirement from the Bridge, she stayed on as a patient advocate volunteer.
Jeanie loved chocolate, diet Coke and singing in the choir. She was devoted to being involved with her church family, loving on her grandchildren, and defending unborn babies and their moms. Jeanie was a faithful friend and never met a stranger. She embodied compassion and gentleness in every role she filled.
More than anything, Jeanie loved Jesus and longed for others to know his love and salvation. She was a dearly loved wife and mother.
Jeanie is survived by her children Julie (Mario) Reyna and Lori (Daniel) Graves; sister Linda (Buford) Lewis; brother Michael (Becki) Moore; four grandchildren and dear family friends Michelle and Chandler Plott.
A Celebration of Jeanie’s life will be held at Hampton First Baptist Church, 85 McDonough St., Hampton, GA 30228 on Saturday, January 3rd at 2:00pm. Her family will receive friends beginning at 12:30pm.
