Jimmie Hosford Gorham, Sr., age 87, of McDonough, GA went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2025. He was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Bartow Gorham and the late Margaret Keene Gorham. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gorham, his brother Charles Gorham, his brother David Gorham, and his grandson, Jimmy Vogel. Jimmie Gorham is survived by his daughter, Terri (Mike) O’Quinn, son Jimmie (Maria) Gorham, Jr., son David (Cheryl) Gorham, and daughter Joy (Jim) Vogel; Brother Mike Gorham; and grandchildren, Jessica Ashby, Andy O’Quinn, Brian, Christopher Vogel, Matthew Vogel, Joshua Vogel, Allie Vogel, Lindsay Gorham, Blake Gorham and Dylan Gorham; as well as many other great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends. Jimmie spent his younger years in Savannah, GA then moved to Atlanta, where he attended Murphy High School. After high school, he married Mary, his high school sweetheart, loving her until she went home to be with the Lord. Their commitment and love for each other is the standard for which we carry on in our relationships - Jimmie was always such a gentleman. He entered the Naval Reserves in 1955, where he served 8 years. In 1956 began working for Leon Bloom at BioLab, in Decatur and in Conyers, in a career that spanned 43 years. He was an active member of Columbia Drive United Methodist Church in Decatur, GA, serving in many different capacities; on committees and in leadership roles. The people whom he met and worshipped with were integral and loving parts of his faith journey, creating lasting relationships. Then, he and Mary moved to McDonough, GA, and continued this active church membership at McDonough First United Methodist Church. They immediately fell in love with this new body of Christ, again finding numerous ways to serve the Lord. Jimmie loved camping and traveling with Mary, visiting as many places as possible in the US that they could reach. He passed this love of camping on to his children, especially Terri. The meticulous care he took of his lawn would be the envy of any lawn company. He also had a love/hate relationship with golf, and those who played with him will know what this means. He also had this sort of passion for his favorite sports teams, the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family and the many friends he met along the way. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Jimmie will be on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM, at McDonough First United Methodist Church, 151 Macon Street, McDonough, GA. Interment will immediately follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park, 640 McGarity Rd., McDonough, GA 30252. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
