Joseph Charles Sullivan

Joseph Charles Sullivan, age 83, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Harold and Sarah E. Sullivan. Joe is also preceded in death by his brother, Harold E. Sullivan. Joe graduated from the old Fulton High School in 1949. He received a Bachelor Degree from Georgia Teachers College where he attended on a baseball scholarship. He was an active alumni and a member of the T Club. Joe also proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he played baseball and football. He retired from Atlanta Gas Light and was the owner of Father & Sons Construction. Joe was a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church and a member of the James Gang, a group known for their mission work. He was a former member and deacon at Bethany Baptist Church for many years where he was instrumental in establishing many of Bethany’s structures. He served on MCA’s (McDonough Christian Academy) Board of Trustees and was fundamental in establishing its first football team.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Fontaine Sullivan of McDonough, Georgia; children: Joe Sullivan Jr., Gainesville, GA, Alicia Sullivan (Billy) Dellinger, McDonough, GA, Jeff (Cindy) Sullivan, McDonough, GA, Fonda Sullivan (Chris) Eason, Madison, WI, Jerry (Teresa) Sullivan, McDonough, GA, and Cassandra Sullivan, McDonough, GA; grandchildren: Tripp Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan, Chelsey Dellinger, Will Dellinger, Cole Dellinger, Sara Sullivan, Isabelle Sullivan, Lauren (Edwin) Parra, Zach Eason, Connor Eason, Will Eason, Drew Eason, Tyler Sullivan, Tatum Sullivan, Margot Turbeville, and Cade Turbeville,; great grandchildren: Jenna Rowland, Ali Phillips, Chloe Parra, Preston Parra, and Summer Parra; siblings: Diane Sullivan Palmer, Doug Sullivan and Bess Sullivan Zappa.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Al O’ Quinn and Rev. Hinton Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00PM.
