Lovell "Loran" Chapman

Lovell Loran Chapman, age 95, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Loran was born September 16, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Lovell Loran and Lillian Louisa Ewing Chapman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jo Greenway Chapman; children, Sharon Chapman, Gary Chapman and Lee Spence; siblings, George Orr, Jackson Orr and Frances Orr Marbut. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age seventeen and was stationed on the USS Venango. He worked on the maintenance of the landing crafts and assisted in the clean up of the aftermath of Pearl Harbor and spent the rest of his duty touring the Pacific. Loran, also known as "Foxy", had a storied career for the City of Atlanta Fire Department from September 5, 1956 until his retirement on September 22, 1981. He always put family first and was a loving husband, father and "Anndaddy" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a love for baseball over the years whether playing on a Minor League team to coaching his grandchildren at Little League. He loved to ride motorcycles, race cars at Lakewood, working in his yard and gardening, woodworking and carpentry, and tinkering with boats and VW's. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs and taking cruises with his family. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Morrow. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Chapman; daughters, Jo Ann (Daniel) Holbrook and Janet (Wayne) Van Wie; step daughters, Phyllis Malone and Nora Spence; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters in law, Pat Orr and Louise Orr; his faithful companion, Lucy; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 - 1:00 PM in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Marvin Dortch will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 11:00 am - 1:00 PM prior to the service.
