Mrs. Phyllis Helms Gilbert, age 78, of McDonough, GA passed away December 4, 2018. Mrs. Gilbert was born in Griffin, GA the daughter of the late Maybell Allen Helms and Emmitt H. Helms. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Helms.
Mrs. Gilbert enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, serving in her church and community and was known for being a good cook. She was a life long member of McDonough Assembly of God where she served in all areas of the church. Phyllis and J. T. started their business in 1986 at McDonough Amoco and later transferred their business to McDonough Automotive and Towing where they continue to serve the community and the surrounding areas.
She is survived by her husband of 59 plus years, J. T. Gilbert of McDonough; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Kim Gilbert of McDonough and Rick and Cheryl Gilbert formerly of Locust Grove; grandchildren and their spouses, Gina and Aaron Zielinske of McDonough, Nicole and Andrew Diaz of Blue Ridge, GA, Jonathan and Cassie of Locust Grove and Ryan Gilbert of Locust Grove; great grandchildren, Krista, Jordan, Marcus, Aaliyah, Josiah and Lillian; brother and sister-in-law, Marshal and Belita Helms of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Rose Helms of Jacksonville, FL; other brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Imogene Thompson, Jerry Gilbert, Ron and Diane Brown, Daniel and Marilyn Gilbert, Wendell and Karen Gilbert and numerous nieces and nephews that loved her.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2:30 PM in the chapel with Rev. Gina and Rev. Aaron Zielinske and Rev. Steve Snider officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in McDonough.
