Shirley Hayes Wood

Shirley Hayes Wood, age 88, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024. She was born in Atlanta on May 21, 1936 to the late Frederick Jonah and Betty Lee Lowe Hayes. She attended Russell High School in East Point, GA and she was a senior account representative for Lanier Worldwide in Tucker, GA. Shirley retired in 2001 after 27 years of employment. In the 1970's she worked with the Clayton County League of Women Voters on the Right to Read program for students across the county's schools. Shirley was a Girl Scout Troop leader in the 1970's. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. Shirley raised her children to be strong and independent. She always said the greatest gift you can give your child is the gift of independence. She was determined, even in bad health, to not burden her children. Shirley possessed a quick wit that was often sharp to keep people on their toes. She enjoyed her family and loved her children, Natalie and Dana, granddaughter Melissa and more recently, a great-grandson, Maverick. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, Georgia.
