December 13, 1949 – October 12, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen John Nally, who departed this life peacefully at home in Jonesboro, GA on October 12, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 13, 1949, Stephen was a devoted husband to Amelia Lynne Nally.
Although Steve and Amy had no children themselves, they shared a love for each other and their 17 nieces and nephews, who will cherish the memories they shared with him. Steve and Amy also held deep affection for Basset Hounds, most recently "the girls" Nellie, Blossom, Holly, and Tootsie. Their home was filled with joy and laughter, much like the fond memories they created together—living in Schweinfurt, Germany, spending holidays with family in Philadelphia, enjoying vacations on Saint Simon Island, and sailing on Viking Cruises along the rivers of Europe.
Steve attended Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia, where he met Amy at the age of 15. Amy and Steve were married five years later.
Steve earned a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies from Penn State and a Master's in Health Administration. His impressive career began with over 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, joined through the ROTC program. He proudly served as an Army Ranger and Paratrooper. Throughout his military career, he was stationed in Germany, Savannah (GA), Fort Dix (NJ), Farmville (VA), South Korea, and Atlanta (GA), and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In civilian life, Steve enjoyed a successful career in healthcare management, culminating in his role as CEO of the innovative Atlanta Cancer Care treatment network.
Steve was an active member of his community and a decades-long supporter of Georgia Basset Hound Rescue.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Steve loved mingling with friends and family at the Eagles Landing Country Club and had a passion for rugby, even serving as a referee for many years. His love of golf was evident in the countless hours spent on the course with friends.
He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. Amy appreciates all of the support she is receiving from friends and family at this difficult time.
