

Alfred Wiethorn of McGregor died Saturday morning, December 22, 2012, at the age of 90. Viewing will commence at 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, with a formal visitation from 6 to 8 P.M. at Cole Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 S. Tyler Street, McGregor with Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 W. Fifth Street, McGregor.
Mr. Wiethorn was born June 22, 1922, in McGregor, Texas, the son of the late Louis and Henrietta Bertha (Fehler) Wiethorn.
Early on, Alfred enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country during World War II where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received his discharge on November 2, 1945. He was a true patriot of his country and enjoyed sharing the stories to family and friends of his service days and experiences in Europe. One of his most memorable trips was back to Omaha Beach, the site of the United States Military Cemetery in France in 1978. He maintained an active membership in the Bryant Oliver Post 273 throughout his life. On November 24, 1945 Alfred married the love of his life, Helen Quebe at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, Texas. They shared a life of love and devotion for 67 years.
Alfred was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor where he ushered, served as a member of the choir, church council, and various boards and committees through the years. Alfred devoted his life to farming and ranching in the McGregor area. He was honored by the McGregor Chamber of Commerce as the Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1964. He served on the boards of the Farmer’s Home Administration, Central Texas Bosque Water Supply, and McLennan County Electric Cooperative for 17 years. Alfred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was very important to him. His two main loves were his family and church. Another was most certainly socializing with his “coffee buddies” at the Farm Center.
Also precededing him in death were his brothers Gilbert Wiethorn and Raymond Wiethorn.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen, daughter Carolyn Lillard and husband Donald of McGregor; son Curtis Wiethorn and wife Neta of Valley Mills; son Kenneth Wiethorn and wife Tami of Hewitt; a brother, Charles Wiethorn and wife Charlotte of Crawford; sister-in-law Velma Wiethorn of McGregor; sister-in-law Carol Wiethorn of McGregor; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
