Burton was born on June 17, 1950 to Clarence Paul and Ima Belle (Rutherford) Hankins Port Arthur, Texas. He was a longtime resident of McGregor, Texas. Burton served in the United States Navy from September 2, 1969 – August 26, 1973. He married the love of his, life Diana Smith Griggs on November 23, 1991. He worked for Smead Manufacturing as a Warehouse Clerk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Diana Hankins.
Survivors include his sons, Aaron Hankins of McGregor, Texas, Sean Hankins and wife, Pamela of Astoria, Oregon, Rusty Griggs of Kansas City, Kansas, daughter, Megan Wiseman of Raleigh North Carolina; seven grandchildren.
