Calvin Jones

Calvin Jones of McGregor died early Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013, at the age of 91. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Curtis Jones officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Cole Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones was born April 29, 1922, in Truscott, Texas the son of the late James C. and Lula (Vanderford) Jones where he began his education. In 1940, he graduated from Gilliam High School. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1945. On July 9, 1948, he married Geneva Ruth Watkins in Borger, Texas. After fifty-nine years of marriage she preceded him in death July 1, 2008.

In 1953, Phillips transferred him from Borger to McGregor where was employed by them, Rocketdyne and retired from Herculees in 1986. While working there, he was affectionally known as “painter Jones” as a maintenance painter after thirty-five years of service.

Calvin was a member of Victory Chapel in McGregor and enjoyed Woodworking, vegetable gardening and was on a bowling league for several years.

Survivors include a son Curtis Jones of McGregor; four daughters, Tura Ruth Starcke of McGregor, Lois Fay Campbell of Clifton, , Roberta Norwood of Oglesby, Rose Fitzhugh of McGregor; a brother, Bryan Jones of Lubbock, a sister, Ruby Lee Wisdom of Lubbock; seventeen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.

Active casketbeares will be Jeremy Fitzhugh, Tim Fitzhugh, Tommy Norwood, Danny Ridings, J.T. Ridings and Eugene Starcke. Honorary casketbearer wil be Chris Fitzhugh.
