
Dr. Charles Howard of Bryan formerly of Richardson died Friday, October 12, 2012, at the age of 88. Dr. Howard was born July 5, 1924 in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Moody High School and entered the University of Texas in Austin.
While there he was drafted and joined the Army Air Corps. A leg injury prevented him from serving overseas and he returned to Austin to finish his degree and prepare for medical school at UT Southwestern and residency at Wayne County General Hospital in Michigan and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. In 1967 he joined the staff of Richardson General Hospital and served as chief of surgery and president of the medical staff. He was instrumental in planning and opening Richardson Regional Hospital in 1977. On December 14, 2004 he became the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Richardson Regional Health Center. He served faithfully for three decades as a deacon and elder at Believer’s Chapel in Dallas. Dr. Howard spent his entire adult life serving others and living out the words of our Lord.
He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Dr. Howard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille, his son and daughter-in-law Chip and Debbie Howard of Bryan; son Keith and daughter-in-law Dana Howard of San Antonio; granddaughter Lindsey Thomson and husband Stan of Pflugerville and great granddaughter Harper Thomson; Lesley and Rob Walton of Reston, Virginia and Charles D. and Carrie Howard of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by grandson Timothy Walton, his father and mother Charles and Carrie Howard and a sister, Catherine Gent.
The family will hold a private graveside service in Moody, Texas Tuesday at 2:00 PM and a memorial service at Believer’s Chapel in Dallas Wednesday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the tape ministry of Believer’s Chapel or Grace Bible Church in College Station.
