

On September 9, 2014, our beloved father, devoted husband, and friend to many, Charlie F. Johnson, Jr. went to be with his Heavenly Father. Our hearts are sad, but we know that he is at peace, and free from pain and suffering in his eternal home.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor, with Pastor Peter Rupprecht officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 prior to the service.
Charlie was born on March 8, 1930, to Vivian and Charlie Johnson, Sr., in Manzanola, Colorado. After high school, Charlie enlisted in the National Guard and then went on to join the Army, where he served his country as a Corporal from 1950-1953. During his time at Fort Hood, he met the love of his life, Betty Louise Nagel. They were married on September 19, 1952. They were blessed with four children and many grandchildren.
As a young man, Charlie worked as a carpenter, then went on to work at Phillips and Rocketdyne, for many years, before working for Smead Manufacturing, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, in McGregor, where he served on the Council, and was a deacon in his early years. He and Betty volunteered for Meals on Wheels until his death.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Betty Louise; two daughters, Karen Rice of McGregor, and Denise Oliver and husband Larry, also of McGregor; two sons, Randy Johnson and wife Catherine of Valley Mills, and Gerald Johnson of McGregor; four grandsons, Jonathan Oliver, Larry Oliver, Jr., Mark Rice, and Garron Johnson; three granddaughters, Kristen Fondon, Ashley Johnson, and Libbie Johnson; two great-granddaughters, Aurora and Emberly Rice; five step-grandchildren, Cara and Malorie Boniface, Ainslie and Sadler Bailey, and Caleb Lindsey, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charlie and Betty took many camping trips to Red River, New Mexico. Charlie wanted his family to enjoy the mountains he had always loved. To this day, his family enjoys trips to Red River. He leaves behind a legacy of family, love, and devotion.
