

M. L. “Marcus” Compton of Crawford passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the age of 89. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Father Rakshaganathan Selvaraj officiating. Interment will follow at Compton Cemetery in Crawford with Masonic graveside rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Cole Funeral Home.
Marcus was born on May 15, 1924, the son of the late Dick and Roseatte Cagel Compton. He graduated from Crawford High School in 1942. He entered the Naval Air Force in 1943. He married the love of his life Teresa Kapavik in 1992.
His greatest passion was ranching and raising hogs and cattle. He worked at several jobs, always staying busy. He had several businesses, including a parts store, construction business and was running the largest life insurance companies for 20 years. He traveled all over the states and several countries during his days at the Greater Commons Wealth Life Insurance Company. He retired many times, but always found some work to go back too. He substituted at various schools for 13 years until he finally retired at the age of 82 to tend to his pecan and fruit orchard and always kept his yard manicured. He was an avid domino player, he was hard to beat. His Masonic brothers can vouch for that.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, a son and two step grandsons.
He is survived by his beloved wife Teresa Compton, daughter Sissy and husband, Robbie Zander of Clifton; daughter-in-law Lucy Compton of Frisco; step children Carolyn and husband, Joe Pustejovsky of West; Frank Kapavik of Crawford; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
