Raul Valdez

Raul Valdez of McGregor passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the age of 75. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Jose Azcona officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Victor Beltran officiating.

Mr. Valdez was born March 13, 1938, in Mexico, the son of the late Manuel and Juanita (Lerma) Valdez where he graduated from school. He later attended a trade school in Mexico prior to moving to Texas. On February 2, 1963, he married Guadalupe Nunez in Mexico.

Raul had many occupations throughout his life with welding being his most recent. He attended St. Eugene Catholic Church where he took part in volunteer activities. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. More recently, he took great pride in doing things with his family.

Also preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Kayla Berryhill and a son –in-law, Jeff Esau.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Guadalupe Valdez; four sons, Raul Valdez and wife Jennifer of Friendswood, Saul Valdez and wife Michele of Valley Mills, Adrian Valdez and wife Melissa of Oglesby, Omar Valdez and wife Tasha of McGregor; two daughters, Maria Esau of McGregor, Margie Jones and husband Russ of Iola; a brother, Juan Manual Valdez of Kerville; a sister, Guadalupe Morin and husband Elias of Crystal City; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Casketbeares will be Omar Valdez, Raul Valdez, Alex Valdez, Juan Valdez, Saul Valdez and Charles Brown.
