

Raymond “Ray” Wiethorn of McGregor died suddenly Friday, December 23, 2011, at the age of 76. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 S. Tyler St. McGregor, with Pastor Walter Klockers officiating. Interment will follow in McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mr. Wiethorn was born January 13, 1935, in Crawford, Texas, the son of the late Louis and Henrietta (Fehler) Wiethorn. He graduated from Crawford High School where he played football and ran track. On March 14, 1964, he married the former Carol Dian Sandoff at Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor.
In 1965, he moved to McGregor where he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher in earlier years. For thirty-three years, he was employed by General Tire in Waco prior to his 1991 retirement. He was a member of the Sons of Herman. Ray enjoyed sporting events as he was a member of the McGregor Booster Club. He and Carol could be found at various sporting events supporting their grandchildren as they played football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and soft ball. The weather conditions did not matter, they were there. Ray was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed golfing and playing dominos.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Gilbert Wiethorn.
Survivors include his wife Carol of forty-seven years; a son, Darren Wiethorn and wife Carol of West; a daughter, Sherri Orr and husband Ashley of Bosqueville; two brothers, Alfred Wiethorn and wife Helen of McGregor, Charles Wiethorn and wife Charlotte of Crawford; a sister-in-law, Velma Wiethorn of McGregor; five grandchildren, Kendall Orr, Kason Orr, Daylon Wiethorn, Dalton Wiethorn and Breeanna Wiethorn.
