Rhett was born on July 5, 2000, in Waco, to Jimmy and Lorna Hering. He was a freshman at McGregor High School.
For fifteen and a half years, Rhett lived life wide open. From the moment he was born until the moment he left us, Rhett seemed to have the purpose of life figured out better than just about anyone. He was passionate about many things including hunting, football, family and friends. In school, he participated in football, basketball, track, was the freshman class president, and anytime he had a free moment after school, you could find him walking the creek—hunting or fishing. But most of all, Rhett was passionate about people. He knew from an early age that God put him, and all of us, on this earth to take care of one another. He was always quick to smile, to laugh and reach out to those on the fringe; those who were the outcasts. As family, we have lost our son, a sibling and grandson, but more than anything, we have lost a best friend. Rhett will be deeply missed by all that had the joy of knowing him, and we can all take comfort in the assurance that we will see him again in Heaven.
Rhett is survived by his parents; Jimmy and Lorna, brother; Ryan Stuart Hering, sister; Mara Ellen Hering, grandparents; Jene and Micki Hering, of McGregor, and Curtis and Karen Collier, of Robinson, uncle; Trent Collier and wife, Kristy, of Troy, Texas, aunt; Mellissa Woosley, and numerous cousins.
For now, in honor of Rhett, give your best away to others—love, kindness, joy and grace. This is the legacy of Rhett Hering.
