

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, of 65 years; children, Paige Hogge, Bennie Wilkerson (Lisa), Cheryl Selden (Jeff); grandchildren, Shawn Traylor, Stephanie Merino, Ashley Adams, John Selden and Kyle Wilkerson; and two great-grandchildren.
Charles served three years in the U.S. Navy and retired after 29 years in the U.S. Army. As a WWII veteran, Charles served on the USS Nawman DE416 in the bay when they raised the Flag on Hiroshima. Charles retired from the American Tobacco Co. He was a former Post Commander of VFW Post 9808, also former All American Commander District Post and State. He was instrumental in the Start of VFW Post 9808 and spent a lifetime as a devoted member. The family wishes to thank the staff at the VA Hospital for their loving care.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 20. He will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fisher House Foundation.
