Don was born in Miami but lived his youth in Bronxville, N.Y., graduating from the Naval Academy in 1966, then serving as a lieutenant aboard naval aircraft carriers until he retired. In his younger years, Don was an athlete, excelling as a swimmer in high school and playing rugby. Upon leaving the Navy Don began a career selling diesel engines to ships and locomotives where he was greatly respected by customers and co-workers alike, many of whom stayed in touch with him until his passing.
Don was a good provider for his family. he was generous and 'lived his faith' as one friend put it. he had many friends, some dating back to his Academy days. one commented, "Don was the definition of a good and faithful friend & I loved him like a brother." he was fair, calm & steady, perfect for a family as well as a ship.
For years, Don maintained his determination in his fight against Parkinson's. when things got tough, he was famous for saying "no hill for a climber." two scriptures were especially helpful to him : Isaiah 26:3 and Job 22:21. Don's stepson Eric said of his stepdad, "he was solid, stable, caring, & dependable, an all around good person." they loved each other. God bless you, Don, my Husband, we will miss you forever.
