Elaine, 88, of Dawn, Va., passed away peacefully at home Sunday, February 12, 2012. She was born in Madison, Wis., May 2, 1923. She moved to Dawn after marrying the late Welford J. Bowers on December 27, 1944. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elaine Bowers. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Anne Bowers of Mechanicsville; son, W. Jerome Bowers II (Jean of Dawn); granddaughter, Erin Joy Bowers of Chesterfield; sister-in-law, Muriel Bowers Crawley of Ashland. She is also survived by many other family members in Caroline County and Hanover County. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was always faithful to her family and through her years she loved and took care of many pet dogs and cats and also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She had a talent for growing flowers, gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, crocheting and needlework. She was also a wonderful cook and baker. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd.
