She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Beatrice Trimmer; and her brothers, Jerry and Tommy Trimmer.
Roberta was a devoted and loving family woman who always made her loved ones the center of her life. Music was one of her greatest joys, and she shared her beautiful voice from a young age—singing with her sisters, performing as a member of a folk group, and later lending her talents to her church choir.
For more than 38 years, Roberta was a dedicated member of Corinth United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served on multiple committees and lived out her commitment to faith and community. A true force of nature, she had a remarkable gift for creating beauty, transforming spaces through her love of gardening. Both at home and at church, her gardens reflected her care, creativity, and patience. As a master gardener, the beauty she cultivated will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Roberta retired after a long and impactful career as Communications Director at MCV Medical Center, where she dedicated more than 35 years of service. Through her leadership and professionalism, she helped open doors for others and left a lasting legacy of mentorship and service.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael L. Gump; children, Josie Madison (Chris), Sarah O'Neill (Paul), Andy Doucet (Jenn), Jeff Gump (Stephanie); 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Teddy, Marion (Gary), Sharon (James), Robert (Norma); as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends here and abroad.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Corinth UMC, 23 W. Williamsburg Rd., Sandston, VA 23150.
