Virginia Leigh Johnson

Virginia Leigh Johnson, 70, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord at 12:10pm on July 5, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lettie Mae Price Wood, her father, Benjamin Hughes Sr. and brother George Robert Hughes.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gene Johnson, son Edward Valentine Foster III, step daughters, Sheila Hicks and husband Mark, and Jennifer Johnson, grandchildren, Mark Hicks Jr., and Jackson Hicks, sisters, Barbara Jean McGuire of Sanford, N.C., Linda Faye Stike of Bluff City, TN, Dorothy Mae Mercer of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., brothers, Benjamin Franklin Hughes Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Paul Ray Hughes of Holly Springs, N.C., and Charles Evans Hughes of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., dear friend Maureen Shiels and daughters, many other close friends and family.

She was a Licensed L.P.N. at Little Sisters of the poor and retired from Windsor Nursing Home, and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road, with visitation one hour prior to service.
