Dale Darwin Sattler

Dale Darwin Sattler passed peacefully away, at the age of 82, on Saturday October 20, 2018 at Providence Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 18, 1935 to Mary Jane and Walter E. Sattler. Most of his youth was spent growing up in Los Angeles, California, but in his late twenties he moved to Oregon with his family and built a home in Shady Cove by the Rogue River where he lived until his passing.

Dale graduated from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1954 where he learned many of the skills such as drafting, welding, and auto mechanics that served him well throughout his life. He was also a veteran of the California National Guard. After moving to Oregon, he married JoAnn Lee Nolen on March 20, 1965. He returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Southern Oregon State College in 1979. His plan was to teach, but he followed a different path and retired as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Stone Forest Industries. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, watching baseball, and working on his property on all manners of projects. No matter what was broken, Dale could fix it.

Dale is survived by his wife JoAnn Lee Sattler, his sister, Ila Tjecka, his two daughters and their husbands Sarti and Eric Powell and Shantelle and Robert Flick. He had five grandchildren, Allen DeArmond-Sattler, Jesse Sattler, Aerial Hutchison, Reis Powell, Alyssa Powell, and Cadence Flick, and two great grandchildren, Xairon DeArmond-Sattler and Drizden DeArmond-Sattler. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Linda Nolen, her two children, Anthony Nolen and Nicole Nolen, and one grandnephew, Saymeir Nolen.

Dale had a kind heart and a quick wit that made him friends wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, father ,grandfather, brother, and uncle who attended every milestone and event possible, rain or shine. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. At Dale’s request there will be no service; he wanted his passing to be simple and quiet.
