

Don Winston Bohnert, Age 92 of Central Point, entered his new life on July 21, 2020. He was born July 29, 1927 in Medford, Oregon to Arnold and Eudora Bohnert. Their family has farmed in the Central Point area since the early 1900’s.
Mr. Bohnert was a self-employed row-crop farmer. He raised lawn grass seed, Talent Alfalfa seed, sugar beet seed, onion, vegetable and flower seeds for Ferry-Morse, Northrop-King, Great Western and O.M. Scott. He worked on the family farm until he entered the Army Air Force in 1945, where he was assigned to the 101st Weather Squadron at March AFB, California. He was discharged in 1947 as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Oregon Seed Growers League, 1951-1997, and on their Board of Directors for six years and served as chairman in 1965. He was designated Honorary State FFA farmer in 196. For many years he was a member and chairman to the Crater High School FFA Advisory Committee. He assisted in teaching the VO-AG welding class at Crater High School for five years. He belonged to the Central Point Grange #698 since age 14, and was Master in 1959. He was a board member of the Central Point Grange Coop from 1974-1997. He also served as president and board member of the Josephine Growers Coop Assn. from 1965-1988. He was chairman of the Central Point Citizens Advisory Committee from 1970-1980. He also served on the Jackson County Intermediate Education District in the 1960’s. He was a member of the Jackson County ASCS (Agriculture Stabilization & Conservation Service) for over six years. He served as advisory board member of the Pacific Supply Cooperative in Portland, OR. He served on the Budget Committee for the Bear Creek Valley Sanitary Authority. He served on the board of directors for the Medford 1st Christian Church, the Medford Congregational Church, the Central Point Presbyterian Church and the Medford Unity Church. He was a third generation farmer until his retirement in 1997.
He enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, camping and traveling. He was an avid reader of the Louis L’Amour books. He especially loved the desert and the mountains with Death Valley being his favorite place to visit. He was always concerned about others and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and the church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Flo, include: two sons, Darrell (Julie) of Central Point; Peter (Rebecca) of Santa Monica, Cal.; and one daughter, Valorie (Mike) of Oceanside, Cal.; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
