"Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who
could not hear the music." Taken from Annie's journal, author unknown.
Our dear Annie was born in Dallas, Texas on April 15, 1943, the third daughter of Cleone and Don Champion. She passed away on November 14, 2023 as the result of her courageous battle against COPD.
Annie grew up in Dallas until the age of 7 when her family then moved to Golden, Colorado where she loved the beauty of the Rockies and the sweet mountain air. She was well liked in school and she had many friends. At the age of 13 she moved again with her family to San Francisco where she graduated with honors from Jefferson Union High School in 1961. Her education continued when, as an adult and a mother, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the Oregon Health and Science University in 1994. She worked as a psychiatric nurse for RVMC until her retirement. She said that she had found her "niche" as a psychiatric nurse and felt comfortable, satisfied and happy in her profession.
Annie definitely danced to the beat of her own drum. She lived in San Francisco as a single mother while raising her three sons: Damon, Mark and Jeremy. She patiently cared for all three, always giving them her unconditional love. In addition to her three sons, Annie also loved pets and never met a dog that she didn't love. Over her life time she nurtured countless dogs and a few cats as well. Annie also loved plants, flowers, books, music, the Oregon Coast and children, all of which brought joy to her heart.
Annie will be remembered as being quiet, kind, gentle and accepting of others as she lived her life with simplicity. Material possessions meant little to Annie and she measured her success in life by those whom she had influenced to be good people: her sons and as well as many others.
Annie is survived by her sons, Mark and Jeremy Love, her sisters, Martha Zipf, Susan Champion, sister-in-law Kim Faith, nephews Michael (Catherine) Wellman, Patrick (Patti) Wellman, Tim, Todd (Agi), Ted (Hannah) Bofferding, niece Angela Fleischer (Ann) and Gretchen (Kevin) Watson. In addition she is survived by many grand and great grand nephews and nieces whom she delighted in and always remembered with gifts on special occasions. Friend and caregiver, Elaine Deckelman, also survives and the family extends gratitude to her for her kindness.
Preceding Annie in death were her parents and her oldest son, Damon Love.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the future. Contributions in Annie's name may be sent to Southern Oregon Humane Society, Medford, Oregon.
Providence Hospice provided end of life care and the family extends thanks to the nurses who were kind and so very helpful.
