SGM Thomas Richard Ferguson May 1, 1938 – July 1, 2016 Tom was born in Denver Colorado, son of Charles E. Ferguson and Velma Walton, one of five children- one brother and 4 sisters- all deceased except his loving sister Barbara (Bobbie) Walker. Coming from a large family, there are many nieces and nephews. Tom has four daughters that he loved and cherished. By order of birth: Tammie Braga, Debbie Mason, Michelle Current and Cindy Love. He has 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Dena, who has 6 children that he considered “amazing”. Tom felt family his was of utmost importance. Tom was in the Air Force, serving 4 years, and then enlisted in the Army, retiring in 1998 as Sergeant Major E9 after 30 years of service. He received many medals and awards, including the highest given for distinguished service. He loved his country and was proud to be an American. Tom loved music and played the drums, first in school, then in the Sacramento City Band and for local clubs. During the time he was in the Army he had many businesses. He was an amazing salesman, earning awards for “salesman of the year” numerous times. Among the businesses he owned and operated (too many to list all) he owned a car sales lot for 19+ years, had 4 auto detail shops and owned and ran a barbeque rib restaurant. Tom bowled on a league and golfed as often as possible. Deeply involved with national news and politics, he was “up-to-date” every day (i.e., he could tell you the name of every Senate Member!) He enjoyed square dancing in this area where he joined a club and was first Treasurer and then President in the years that followed until it became difficult to square dance and round dance. As a Christian (there was an angel by Tom’s left shoulder who waited to escort him to his Savior), Sundays were always meant for worship where he recently changed to Joy Christian Fellowship about 3 months ago. Tom loved to travel and in recent years took multiple cruises to each the Caribbean, Alaska and also Mexico. There was a wonderful trip to Germany where many countries were enjoyed and visited. He loved traveling the United States, his favorite place being Washington DC where he was humbled with the great history of this country in which he proudly served and lived. Another favorite place to be was Hawaii where he visited at least once a year. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, he is greatly loved, deeply missed and forever in our heart. There will be a viewing from 9-10 a.m. at Abbey Funeral Home in Medford, Oregon located at 550 Business Park Drive, with service following at 11 a.m. at Eagle Point Cemetery located at 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, Oregon.
