
Born on March 20, 1941, in Medina, N.Y. he was the son of Muriel J. (Tompkins) Whiting and the late Victor E. Whiting.
Mr. Whiting grew up in Medina, graduating from Medina High School in 1959. He was employed for two years in the research lab for the former Birdseye of Medina. He then attended Troy State College, Alabama, earning a (BSED) Bachelor Degree in education.
His first teaching job was as a high school English teacher in Monroeville, Alabama., where he was named Teacher of the Year. He continued his fellowship with the Ford Foundation in Starkville, Mississippi, and returned to Monroeville to continue teaching. Finally he taught for seventeen years as the Director of Speech and Drama Dept. at the Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN, retiring in 1992. Mr. Whiting returned to Medina in 1996. In his spare-time he enjoyed photography, gardening, and was a licensed auctioneer and collected lighthouses, which he donated to the Lighthouse Society.
Mr. Whiting is survived by his mother, Muriel Snyder of Medina. Two children, Nicholas Whiting of London, England and Victor Whiting of Oak Ridge TN. Two grand children, Brook and Robert Whiting. A brother, Larry (Joan) Snyder of St. Petersburg, FL. A aunt, June Hungerford of Rochester, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on August 4th, 2013 at the Eagle Harbor Methodist Church, 13407 Eagle Harbor-Knowlesville Rd. Albion, NY 14411 with the Pastor, Rev. Susan Boring officiating.
