

Alice Louise was born on July 07, 1922, at Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Herman R.D. and Emily A. Schwenk. She attended high school in Schuylkill Haven and Business School in Pottsville, PA.
She married Paul T. (Pete) Hoover in 1943 in Valdosta, GA. where he was a Pilot trainer for the war time Army/Air Force. Alice and Pete lived in Valdosta, where son Tommy was born, Schuylkill Haven, PA where Barbara Ann was born, and Durham, NC where Nancy Louise was born. Several years later Alice and kids joined Paul T. who had been transferred to Neu-Isenburg, Germany for 4 years as he flew the Berlin Airlift.
Upon returning to the states they moved to Great Falls, MT, then Cleveland, OH , and upon Paul’s retirement from active Military, they moved to Lumberton, North Carolina where Paul taught school for several years and Alice was a busy homemaker and very involved with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
In 1958 the family moved to Memphis, TN where Paul worked for the government as an Air Traffic Controller in the CAA, later called the FAA and Alice was again busy raising the three children and being involved with the Lutheran Church Ministries.
She is survived by her two daughters , Barbara Ann Hymowitz (Steven) and Nanci Louise Gienapp (Jim) and a son Paul Thomas Hoover Jr. (Elaine); several grandchildren, Amanda Priest (Brian), Jay Dawson (Laura), Paul Hoover III (Kathy), Rachel Reddin (Brian) and Emily S. (Kevin) , Andrew Gienapp (Rebekah), Lori McStay (Jared) and eight great grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Paul Thomas Hoover on March 19, 1991, and her brother David Schwenk ( Mara)of Hatfield, PA on October 28, 2007.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 6th from 12 noon til 1:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:15 p.m. The following week a Grave side service and subsequent burial will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Vale, NC. where her husband Paul is buried.
