

Dr. Arthur Lawrence Bellott, Jr. was born February 25, 1920 in New Orleans to Hazel Miller Bellott and Arthur Lawrence Bellott, Sr. He died on November 9, 2014 in Memphis, TN. Dr. Bellott is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace Curde Bellott; children, Thomas Edward Bellott of Lancaster PA, Arthur Lawrence Bellott III (Dominique), Karen Bellott Street (David) and C. Daniel Bellott (Mary Lynn). He was preceded in death by son Alvin Roy Bellott and brothers, E. Melvin Bellott and Donald J. Bellott. He was the proud grandfather of seven grand-children, Lari Vaughn, Jeremy Street (Christy), Anne Claire Jordan (Jeff), Jennifer Gooden (Michael), Elizabeth Bellott, Mark Bellott and Amy Bellott and six great-grandchildren. Born in New Orleans, he and his family moved to Paducah, KY, and then to Memphis. He graduated from Southside High in 1937 and in 1941 received a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Math, Physics and Chemistry from Memphis State College. Dr. Bellott served in the Army with the Active Duty Army Medical Department from 1942 to 1948 and did his medical training at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine graduating in 1945. He also served as an instructor in the Army Medical Field Service school and as a ward office over cardiology services at Brooke General Hospital. His reserve duty was with the Army Medical Department 330th General Hospital from 1948-1957. He retired from military service with the rank of Major. Dr. Bellott was a dedicated physician who took time with his patients and was know for his diagnostic acumen. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association, Memphis and Shelby County Medical Society and Memphis Academy of Internal Medicine. He was a member of the volunteer staff of the University of Tennessee College of medicine from 1953-2000 and named Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, Emeritus A lifelong learner he never tired of reading medical and science journals, teaching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren about nature, geology and medicine as well as photographing the people and places he loved. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home at 5599 Poplar Ave. A private graveside service for family only will be held the following day.
