Austin James Veleff, Sr., 78, of Germantown, died November 8, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. Born, in Pittsburg, PA he joined the military after high school, and became a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. After attending the University of Pennsylvania, he came to Memphis and worked for Memphis Publishing Company for many years. Mr. Veleff was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He leaves behind his beloved family including his wife of 48 years, Claudine Veleff; two children, Austin Veleff, Jr. (Gina Greer) of Memphis, and Lisa Veleff Day (Nathan Day); two grandchildren, Amanuel and Meseret Day of Maine; two sisters, Lydia Hoffman of Florida, and Joan Sheffler of Pittsburgh, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and in laws. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 -- 11 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue, followed by the funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Southwoods. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
