Calvin Y. McDaniel

Calvin Y. McDaniel, age 90, left this world January 9, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean V. McDaniel, and his son, Steve McDaniel (Beverly). He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelley McDaniel and his son, John McDaniel (Linda). He is survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Cimarron in the South Pacific. He served for 26 years with the Memphis Police Department, 17 of those years as a Lieutenant in the Vice Squad. After his retirement from MPD, he was head of security of Walgreen’s Distribution Center. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church. He was a good and honest man who loved his wife and family. There will be no grief that he is no longer with us for he touched our hearts and rippled our pond. We will live in thankfulness that he was with us these many years.

Services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar Avenue, Friday, January 15, 2016, with visitation at 1:00 PM and services at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in his honor be made to Make-A-Wish of the Mid-South, Baptist Reynolds Hospice House or Colonial Baptist Church.
