Charles Harrison Bullard was born in Tennessee on October 26, 1911 to Eugene Sr. and Lazinka Hill Bullard who precede him in death, he and his brother, Eugene Jr. (passed 1987), grew up in Tennessee. He married Ruth Moser on July 2, 1938 and they were blessed with the birth of a son, Jerry Mallory, in 1940 that preceded him in death. Mr. Bullard was a respected employee of the United States Post Office, reaching the positions of Transportation Manager and Regional Railway Post Office Clerk before retiring. He enjoyed many things in his long life; he was a golfer, a very sharp poker player, and enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico and Asia. Topping the list was his beloved University of Tennessee Football — rarely did he ever miss a game, usually watched with a proper cocktail in hand if it was the right hour to do so. At the age of 98 he went skydiving for the very first time, saying jokingly when asked why he did it, “there’s not a whole lot to do when you’re my age.” Mr. Bullard was a true Southern gentleman who had a wide circle of dear friends, family who loved him, and lived every moment of his life with grace and a smile. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Barbara Bullard and granddaughter Lane Bullard.
A gathering for all family and friends will be held on Friday, April 24 from 5-8pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
