

Charles Curtis "Curt" Gay Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. The world has lost another good man. He was born March 16 1938 to Charles and Otey Gay. Curt grew up in the Highland Heights area of Memphis, TN. He was in the graduating class of 1956 at Treadwell High School. After high school, Curt attended State Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in structural Engineering. Curt went on to serve in the US Army, serving 3 years in Niagra Falls, New York. On June 9, 1956, Curt married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Whitehorn. Curt retired after many years as a structural engineer with Lewellen Manufacturing. Many people in the Raleigh/Bartlett area remember Curt as their always punctual, very friendly and always caring Commercial Appeal paper carrier. He went out of his way to carefully place the paper conveniently for his elderly customers, a gesture that is rare. Curt is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gwen. His 3 children; Renee Sholly (Johnny), Cherri Sims (Don), and Robert Gay (Capucine), a brother, Pete Gay (Pat), 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 7 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel.
