Charlie was born in Independence, Mississippi on July 14, 1930 to the late Adolph & Annie Embrey.
He started his career on the river with Warner and Tamble. He ended his career as vice president of Waterways Marine after 40 years. Charlie was a Shriner and member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and the Atlanta Braves.
Along with his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his only sibling Floyd Embrey and his wife Rachel L. Embrey.
He is survived by his daughters Gay (Rick) Embrey and Lee Lucchesi; three grandchildren Angelo Lucchesi, Jr., Gabrielle (Julian) Prewitt and Rachel (Mark) Sanford; six great-grandchildren Embrey, Sutton, Jones, Stiles, Raines and Alina; and other distant family.
Family and friends will gather at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue on Sunday, September 24 from two o'clock until four o'clock in the afternoon. A graveside service will be held at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road on Monday, September 25 beginning at two o'clock that afternoon. Dr. Phil Glisson will lead the graveside service.
Any financial donations in Charlie's honor should be sent to the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
