Cynthia Sue Bottenfield, known as Cindy to most, lost her 8-year struggle with breast cancer on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. She lived her entire 61 years in the Bluff City and passed peacefully in her home in Cordova.
Born on January 28, 1960 in Memphis, Cindy was the second child and daughter of Roy and Dannie Bottenfield. She was the loving sister of Sharon Bottenfield Sharp, Julie Bottenfield Bardos, Dana Bottenfield and their “adopted” exchange student/Dutch sister, Maryvonne Kurris. Cindy was a dedicated employee at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for 19 years in Financial Services.
A lifelong fan of the University of Memphis, the Dallas Cowboys, and whomever was playing the University of Tennessee, she spent many happy hours watching football, basketball and baseball with family and friends. Cindy also loved gardening, trips to the beach or Mountain View, and Sunday dinners with family and friends. Her family was the center of her life and her niece, nephews, great-nephew, and great-nieces lovingly called her Aunt Ninny. They brought her great joy and an abundance of laugher and smiles. Her extended family included her many friends. Cindy will be remembered as kind, generous, loving, and sweet by all who were lucky enough to know her. While she may have lost her battle, we all won for having Cindy in our lives.
Cindy is survived by her parents, Roy and Dannie Bottenfield, her siblings Sharon Sharp, Julie Bardos (Dominic), Dana Bottenfield and Maryvonne Kurris, her niece, and nephews, Jason Sharp (Divya), Dane Sharp (Caitlyn), Julie Sharp, Alex Bardos, Zach Bardos, Michael Bardos, and Khalifa Ndiaye, her great-nieces and great nephew, Jordan Sharp, Sofia Sharp, Alanna Sharp, Lily Sharp and Josie Sharp, her first cousins, Matt Coats (Stephanie) and Jennifer St. Clair (Chris) and their children, Sam David, Gabby Coats, Elise Coats, Will St. Clair, Owen St. Clair and Sara St. Clair.
A service to honor the life and memory of Cindy will be held at the Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee on May 8, 2021. Visitation begins at 12:30 pm, with a service at 2 pm, followed by an informal gathering at the home of Julie Bardos.
Donations in Cindy’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
