

Clarice Benjamin Burchfield, age 99, of Collierville, Tennessee, passed away on March 18, 2026. She was born on September 28, 1926, in Pontotoc, Mississippi. Clarice will be remembered as a beloved, faithful, and hard-working woman whose life reflected steady devotion to family, work, and faith.
Clarice grew up in Thaxton, Mississippi, and attended Hurricane School, graduating high school early at the age of 16. From an early age, she demonstrated determination and a strong sense of purpose that would remain evident throughout her life.
For more than 50 years, Clarice worked for a local dentist, serving with consistency and care. Her remarkable work ethic carried her through a long and dedicated career, and she continued working until the age of 85.
In 1947, Clarice married Burnell Burchfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell; her parents, Charlie and Estelle Benjamin; and her brother, Leighton Benjamin.
Clarice is survived by her daughters, Anita Lauer and Donna Pleasants (Henry); grandchildren, Julie Thompson (Brandon), Tim Pleasants (Deborah), Leanne Pleasants, David Lauer (Kelly), and Emily Pinner (Cole); and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Sarah Garrett, Ruth Wilemon, and Martha Bruner.
Clarice was very involved in her church and Bible study, finding strength and community through her faith. She also enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Burnell, and treasured the time they spent together.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25 from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. She will be laid to rest on Monday, April 6, at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
