

Miss Clora Jacqueline Hays went home to her Lord and Savior Sunday evening, June 16, 2013. She had been a patient at Allen Morgan in Memphis TN for several months. Miss Hays, the daughter of Milton Edwin Hays Sr. and Clora Crosby Hays, was born in Memphis TN on September 11, 1925. After graduating from Humes High School in 1943, she went to work as a steno clerk at Fisher Memphis Aircraft Division and received the Army Navy Production Award for her contribution on the production front of the greatest war in history, World War II. After leaving Fisher, “Miss Jackie” was then a ticket agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 12 years prior to going to work for Buckeye Cellulose in 1957. She retired from Buckeye as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Technical Division in 1991 after 34 years of service. Miss Hays was preceded in death by an infant sister, her mother Mrs. Clora C. Hays, her father Milton E. Hays Sr., her brother Milton E. Hays, Jr. and her nephew Sgt. James Milton (Jimmy) Fleming (US Army). She is survived by her sister, Pamela (Pam) Hays Fleming and her brother in law, James F. (Jim) Fleming and nieces Lisa M. Craig (Ken) of Sparta, TN;, and Jennifer Fleming Fisher (Mark) of Bartlett, TN. She is also survived by her nephew Jimmy’s wife, Lauren Fleming of Memphis, TN. She leaves behind four great-nieces, Lauren Craig, Bryttany Fisher, Meaghan Fleming and Lauren Fisher. As well as five great-nephews, Jonathan Craig, Marvin Loft IV, Aaron James (AJ) Fleming, Joshua Fleming and Wyatt Fisher. From birth, Miss Hays was a member of the old Chelsea Avenue Presbyterian Church for forty years until she joined Speedway Baptist Church (now Community Bible Church at Speedway Terrace). Miss Jackie has touched the lives of many children during the more than fifty years she taught Primary Children’s Sunday School in both churches. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Trezevant Terrace Memory Care, Allen Morgan, and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care in her recent years. The family would like to request that you please wear purple to the services as purple was Jackie’s favorite color. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 713 S. Mendenhall Rd, Memphis TN 38117 in her honor. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 19 from 5-7 p.m. and the celebration of her life and home going will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 2 p.m., all at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue.
