

Darla Jean Williams, age 80, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024. She was born January 5, 1944 in Memphis to James Albert Williams and Alice Lucinda Woods Williams. She was a graduate of Overton High School, Class of 1962. There she met the love of her life, William Duke, although due to a tragic accident, they lost touch for many years. They reconnected 25 years later and were married were married nearly 27 years before he passed in 2014.
Darla was previously employed by General Electric Appliances and General Electric Medical. She enjoyed crocheting and won numerous awards at the Mid-South Fair for her beautiful quilts, including Chairman’s Choice and Best in Show. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and collecting new recipes.
She loved her family deeply and enjoyed hosting family dinners and holiday celebrations. She is survived by her son, Chris Kobernus (Aubrie); her grandson, Landon Kobernus; her sister Joyce Williams Stoddard; her nieces Melanie Mahan, Suzanne (Sue) Williams, and Aimee Mensah-Kongnon; her great-nieces and great-nephews Jordan Escoe, James Rogers, and Analia Echols; and her sister-in-law Betty Shadish. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Duke.
Services will be private.
